Hey extension artists,
Welcome to our first ever feature of The Extension Artist Insider, where we reveal beauty business secrets and share the real strategies that help stylists build a booked, profitable business without burnout.
Let’s keep it real for a second.
You can be super talented, post stunning before and after pictures, and still stare at a quiet calendar.
I lived that.
I’m Christina Bonner, and I’m a multi 6-figure salon owner, educator, and the founder of Studio She Academy. I’ve helped thousands of stylists learn the art and business of hair extensions.
But above all, I’m a stylist. And in the beginning of my career, I also struggled to find the right clients, said yes to everything, and burned myself out trying to do it all.
The shift only happened when I realized that spreading myself thin wasn’t going to make my pockets bigger. So I narrowed my focus, raised my prices, and started running a simple, repeatable business system that I now teach.
I literally went from offering every service to only offering dimensional color and transformative extensions.
This is the work that gets stylists to consistent $10K and $20K months.
It’s not magic or luck. It’s a strategy… followed by consistency.
It’s also about showing up for yourself, but that’s a whole other topic and blog! 😜

What hair extension business training really means to you.
Most trainings will show you the technique and send you home.
As a matter of fact, they spend more time talking about their business, how to order and how to price because that’s why they are giving you basic training. To get you to order hair.
Typically the free education out there and YouTube University mindset will never be the way to truly scale and learn!
Basic education and yet you’re charging luxury prices… that’s just bad business!
Many training programs focus solely on technique and then send you on your way. In fact, they often dedicate more time to promoting their business, ordering procedures, and pricing strategies, as their primary goal for offering basic training is to encourage hair orders.
Relying on free online education or a "YouTube University" mindset will not lead to true scalability or comprehensive learning. Charging luxury prices with only basic education is simply poor business practice.
Real hair extension business training covers what happens before, during, and after the service, so the books stay full and the numbers make sense.
It answers questions like:
How do I position myself as the extension specialist in my market, even if I don’t have a huge following online (or maybe I hate being online and still want to grow my business)?
What exact words do I use to turn a DM inquiry into a complimentary or paid consultation?
How do I price so I am actually profitable and can grow my business?
How do I maintain a solid client retention so that I’m not chasing new leads every week? How do I keep my clients happy so that they come back
If your education does not answer those questions, you do not have business training. You have a technique class with no way to turn that into actual income.
Booked and busy =/= successful!
But booked and busy could also mean overworking and not enjoying life. I’ve been in both sets of shoes.
Let’s say you are busy… but still underpaid and burnt out.
I used to celebrate when I started getting busy days because I thought “booked and busy” was the way to be.
Then I looked at my profit margins… even though my chair was finally full (and my back was literally killing me!), my margins were thin.
That’s when I realized I had a business problem. I had an emotionally discounting problem.
I had an old school mindset of grinding it out and being a hustler meant SUCCESS.
I was offering everything to everyone and trying to outwork my pricing by sacrificing all of my time.
And it's just not sustainable.

The minute I refined my offer, cut out all the BS, and strengthened my positioning as “premium”, my income tripled without adding more hours. As a matter of fact, I work less now and I make more money (and even I didn’t think it was possible).
That is the heart of solid hair extension business training: work fewer hours at a higher pay with the clients that actually want premium results (and are happy to pay for them!).
The 5 pillars I teach to reach $10K to $20K months
This is the framework I return to with every stylist I train.
Positioning that makes you the top choice
If you serve everyone, no one’s going to remember you. So narrow it down. Your menu should be catered to serve your dream client. Think of her, and only her, and work around that.
A big mistake that we all make is wanting to serve to many audiences because you’re an artist and you love doing “all the things”. That’s great, I get it. But that’s a broke mindset. You can’t make 300k per year doing $45 hair cuts. It's just basic math.
Random fact: I love doing lash lifts, but you don't see me offering them anymore at Studio She. I even flew to Los Angeles, and took a class in Beverly Hills! I was trained by a celebrity lash artist who created her own brand.
Years later, while I love doing them, I was charging $175 and it took one hour to do.
It just didn’t make sense to keep it on my service menu. Unless, of course, you hire another person to do the service.
Pricing that reflects your skill
If you are double booked and still not hitting your numbers, it is a pricing problem. And I get that. It’s about positioning. Map your profit target and your costs. Factor in your skill and the lifetime of training it took you to get there. That’s your magic number. You should be able to say it with no hesitation.
Don’t forget, if you don’t believe in your pricing and your talent, it will come across in your consultation.
If you’re on the struggle bus, role play! It’s the best way to work through the “stuff”.
A consult that actually converts
Clients want confidence. They book because they trust you. When you own your expertise, that’s when you stop chasing and start closing.
A schedule that protects your energy and lifestyle
Being booked out is not a trophy if it throws a wrench in your life plans. Build a calendar that reflects the way you want to work, so you can scale without burning out.
This starts with booking your holidays out one year in advance, and blocking off one or two days per week that you don’t want to be BTC. Then it’s done. Remember, if it’s not planned it’s not real.
Client retention and referral systems
Reinstalls are the backbone of a stable extension business.
Prebook your clients’ next appointments, remind them, and follow up. Show that you care by asking for their experience after their appointment.
You can also stack reviews on Google and make a simple referral process with a discount. I’ve always said that the person most likely to pay you is the one that already has, so make the process simple for them!
Behind the Chair: A Look into Your Specialized Salon
Imagine this:
✨ Your calendar is perfectly curated, showcasing your specialized services instead of a chaotic mix of low-ticket offerings.
✨ A new client, secured through a successful consult last week, arrives with a deposit already paid.
✨ You're fully prepared, knowing her hair history, the precise placement plan, and her agreed-upon maintenance schedule.
✨ You deliver a breathtaking transformation. Before she leaves, her next maintenance appointment is booked, and a quick DM is sent, offering a Starbucks in exchange for a Google review! ☕️
This is the streamlined, specialized business you can build with Studio She Academy hair extension business training.

Your next 6 weeks
If you don’t know where to start, that’s okay.
Sometimes we need 1-on-1 support to know the exact steps we need to implement in our business.
That’s exactly what Get Booked Fast was created for.
It’s a repeatable, done-for-you system that shows you how to fill your books. And you’re guided every step of the way by someone who has done it all before.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
If you want to be booked out six weeks from now, we can make it happen.
Book your 20 minute call so we can help you streamline your business, and double (or triple!) your bookings.
Your reminder:
You are already an artist. Business training protects your art so you can do it sustainably and profitably - without hiccups or expensive lessons!
✨ When you price for profit, you can keep learning and expanding your skill set.
✨ When you specialize, you free up mental energy so you can be a pro.
✨ When you stop apologizing for your value, clients trust you inherently. Because clients pay for leadership.
✨ When you start showing up for yourself and surround yourself with the right people, the right community that’s when things start to shift!
Questions I hear all the time
Do I need a huge following on social media to hit $10K to $20K months
No!
You need the right offer, clear pricing, and systems that make it simple to run your business.
A small audience that’s listening is more than enough. You just need to change your messaging and work on your branding. And don’t worry, you don’t have to live on social media.
If I raise my prices and change my offers, will I lose my clients?
Not when it’s done the right way.
Clients don’t leave because of higher prices, they leave when they don’t understand the value behind them.
When your consultation builds trust and offers value, your offer will feel more personalized for the right clients. AND you’ll quickly attract new ones.
What if I am in a small town?
Okay, so this might sound a little wild, but I built a multi six figure salon in a small town… middle of nowhere surrounded by cornfields.
I giggle thinking about it because I am originally from Vancouver, British Columbia. Which is a city. I lived in a high rise.
Building a Multi-Six-Figure Salon in a Small Town: My Journey from City Life to Cornfields
Yes, like I said, I ACTUALLY built a multi-six-figure salon smack dab in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cornfields.
And I was a city slicker.
So, moving to "Hicksville Road" feels pretty hilarious looking back.
There were only four houses on my street, and I didn't know a single soul when I first got there.

And yes, this is an actual picture of my house. 👆
My background was in broadcasting, and I'd even dropped out of beauty school not once, but two or three times!
As I like to joke, I literally did it all for love!
Either way. Small markets are perfect for specialists because word travels fast when the experience is good.
Focus on quality service and client retention. But also think BIG. I have clients that drive hours! You are not limited to your zipcode.
Ready to build the version of your business that lasts?
You do not need to work more hours to make more money.
You need a clean system that supports the level of work you love to do. And dare I say, you need accountability.
I teach this inside my “Get Booked Fast” challenge on the Extension IQ app, with short lessons you can run between clients and live weekly support so you can set up the systems that work for you.
The best part: it’s all on your phone! ;)
We created a mobile app that makes it super easy and accessible to learn. 📲
Whether you’re between clients, on a lunch break, or winding down after a long day, you can log in, watch short lessons, join live coaching calls, and apply what you learn immediately.
You can also listen while you’re driving to the salon… whatever works for you!
That is what real hair extension business coaching and training delivers when you commit.
